What are we working on today?

Sunday’s are a great day for me to quilt and get other things done.  And so today I have been working on lots.  I have started cutting, sewing and pressing a dresden plate, this is made with the cheap template I bought to see if I could make a dresden plate…lol… its nice, just a lot shorter then I would have liked, the template is only one size, so you are pretty much stuck with what you get.  So before I finished it, I ordered the Easy Dresden Ruler.  I like making them but would like to be able to create multiple sizes!

I also am working on a Disappearing 9 patch table runner, there is a great and super easy tutorial here to make your own, I have all the blocks sewn together, and it has been sandwiched and pinned and is ready for quilting.

But before I can quilt that, I need to quilt and finish the baby blanket, so I am thinking of quilting the 9 patch as a treat for finishing quilting the baby blanket.  It is a slow process as I am marking a few lines and then top stitching, then more marking, and well you get the idea.  I am using my disappearing ink pen and if i do to many at once the lines start to fade before I get to them!!

So now that leads me to….What are you working on today?  I hope you have been productive in what ever you are doing today!

Repurposed for New Fabric Storage

So I got this shelf the other day at Walmart,  and I am now using it for fabric storage, specifically fat quarter and a little bit larger sizes.  This way I can see what I have to quilt with at a glance, I still have my Ikea tower full of fabric larger then the sizes that will fit in here, but atleast now most of my quilting fabric that I have at the moment is here.

Some Quilted Retail Therapy :)

Had kind of a crappy morning, so while I was out running some errands I stopped in at fabricland, and I think they heard that I was coming and needed some wonderful and cheap quilting fabric to make me feel better!

They had most of their quilting fabric section on for buy one meter, get 3 meters free!!

The photo above is some of the wonderful fabric that I picked up and here are some more photos of what came home with me today…

This bundle, I think will become some girl baby items, the middle fabric has some cute little chicks on it

This bundle, doesn’t have a purpose yet, but perhaps some spindle bags or some pillow shams

I think this bundle will become some quilted bags, or This and That Boxes, I especially like the bottom fabric and I may break that one from this pack and find some coordinating fabrics that have more greys and greens in them

And this Bundle, which is my favorite is either going to become a quilt for my bed, or some smaller projects such as a laptop cozy and iPod case, and iPad case.

Yummy Fabric!

So, I think I found a new second favorite hang out, I only say second favorite because my LYS is my first favorite…lol…But my new second favorite is Peachtree Fabric and Quilting shop!

It carries Moda!  And I didnt even know it!  Here I am drooling over everyone elses Moda fabrics, when I could be buying my own!!

Needless today my wallet cried a bit because of me stopping there today…lol

I also bought some Amy Butler 5” squares as well.  And a super cute pattern for a bag.

I love Shopping…lol

I was at Fabricland today picking up the white and dark blue that I need to finish my coin quilt and I came across this uber cute fabric, its the second from the bottom one in the photo above, its pinks, and greens and teals, just lovely.  It also happened to be on the sale rack, so I picked up what was left of the bolt, as well as some coordinating colors, I am not sure if I am done picking colors, but I wanted to start collecting them.  Also at this point I am not sure what will become of it, bibs, or blankets or something I am sure.

On that note, I found out today that one of our reps of our suppliers is pregnant, with a boy, so I will ether quilt or knit something for him, but I have till August to get that done, as she will be going on mat leave at the end of august, and coming to visit all of our stores with the new hire sometime in august.

Coins, Coins and more Coins!

All of my coins for the baby quilt are cut! Hmmm looking at the quilt can you tell what my friend is having? I really hope that they like the quilt once it is done!

I am now going to figure out if my 1/4” seams are accurate.  To do this, Amy has a great blog full of tutorials, you can find the tutorial here.

I am using some “test” coins to figure this out.

I also found this great article on Leaders and Enders, a way to cut down on your ends and get more quilting done in the process!!

I have been spending some time looking at some awesome quilts, so I hope to inspire myself to do more…and maybe even incorporate some knitting into it!  We will see!

I think that instead of starting yet another post about this quilt since I want to show off the first set of coins, that I will just add it to this post.

This is one set of the coins together, mind you there will be plenty more attached to this one, but atleast it is started, now I can go to bed!

Things to remember on this quilt, if you have fabric that has a direction, be sure to check the fabric before you add it to your coins, so that it is facing the right way!  you don’t want to get through all of your pieces and find out that one, in the middle of course is upside down!!

So for tonight, I ironed all of my fabric for this quilt, I cut the fabric into 2.5” strips and then cut those strips into 5” lengths, making them coins.  Then I tested my 1/4” seaming so that I get it right, and then I started to sew the coins together.  Yeah for me!  Progress, considering that this fabric has sat for the last 2 weeks while we moved, and while i aimlessly searched for my iron, which I didn’t find, but I did go out and buy me a new one, a small portable one, so that even if I find my iron, I can put this one in my travel bag or pack it for a quilting class etc!

Adventures in Quilting

I am not done Knitting, I just love to do all sorts of things, so from time to time I quilt.  I would like to share my quilting here, with you.  I hope that you will enjoy it.  Maybe learn a thing or two, or maybe someone can teach me something too!!

Today I am starting on a stacked coins quilt for my friends little one on the way, you can find the pattern on Moda.

I will show more as I get it done!
